Landscape or portrait, decided by what you write in it
Landscape gives each date box roughly a third more width, which is the difference between a box that holds an appointment with a time and a box that holds a word. Choose it for a fridge or a wall, where the calendar is read from a distance and everyone adds to it. Portrait gives narrower, taller boxes and fits a binder or a folder without folding, which is what you want if the month is going into a planner alongside other pages. One thing to check before printing a full year: months that start late in the week can need six rows instead of five, which shortens every box. The preview shows the real grid for the month you picked, so you can see it before you commit.

No. The grid is deliberately plain: dates and nothing else, because holidays differ by country and printed assumptions age badly.
