Guide lines that teach good letters
The dashed midline is the secret. It shows exactly where the body of a lowercase letter should stop, so an a, an e, and an o all end up the same height, while ascenders on letters like b and h reach the top line. That structure builds neat, even handwriting far faster than a blank page.
Choosing a line height
- Start tall, around 18 to 20 mm, for young children just forming letters.
- Reduce the height as control improves, down toward normal writing size.
- Older writers rebuilding neat script can start near 12 to 14 mm.
Warm up with whole rows. Practising one tricky letter across a full row builds muscle memory better than a single attempt.
